Little Conversions: Prussian Regimental Commanders

Necessity is the mother of invention. With 12 musketeers already painted, I was looking for a suitable regimental commander.

As shown in the picture below, the coats of IR 3 Anhalt had no lapels and two rows of buttons, officers 12 gilt buttons on each side.  A Foundry Prussian Officer came close, but - besides being already fully painted as Johann Diedrich von Hülsen - had tassels instead of buttons.

Time to expand the skill set and to learn how to use Greenstuff, which I have never used so far.

I took a Russian General from Foundry (pack SYWR031) and gave him the prussian Ringkragen (gorget) and the necessary buttons. The left side of his coat had none and the right side too few. Fiddly stuff! But I prevailed and am quite happy with the result:

I also added a sword to a Front Rank Prussian Officer, intended to be the commander of IR 9 Quadt. Originally, he just points with his finger. Not appropriate when leading your men in to battle, I think.

Blasthof Bridge: Imperial (Austrian) Generals

I already painted an Austrian Feldmarschall-Lieutenant who will act as the Imperial Commander-in-Chief for the Blasthof scenario. He still needs an ADC and the cavalry can also use another officer.

Therefore, I added two mounted General-Feldwachtmeister from the Crusader Miniatures Austrian Generals pack. The one waving his hat will be the ADC (click picture to enlarge):

The one with the hand outstretched, I converted and gave him a sword:

The CiC in the center - the Feldmarschall-Lieutenant - is a Front Rank Figure:

Blasthof Bridge: Imperial Infantry painted

The Imperial Infantry for the Blasthof scenario - 32 men and two officers - is now complete. The whole unit was a painting comission, done a while ago (click picture to enlarge).

Austrian Regiment "Kaiser", 1762 Uniform

The mounted Regimental Commander I had to paint myself. The figure is from Eureka Miniatures' Age of Reason/Seven Years War-Range and listed as "Saxon Mounted Officer" (100AOR120).

I had some difficulty finding a suitable miniature, i.e. one with a more stately look. No waving of hands, hats or swords. This one nicely fits the bill.

With enough figures painted and based, it is time to organize them into two "Charge!"-companies (each with 1 Officer, 1 Drummer, 1 Sergeant and 16 men) and take some photos:

The Commanding Officer is riding behind the formation, the Sergeant Major in front of him. On parade he would be in front.

The Fusiliers and Sergeants are Foundry miniatures, Officers (tricorne trimmed with a golden scalloped lace) from Front Rank and the one next to the C.O. from Foundry and the Sergeant Major is from Fighting 15s (Fighting 30s range).

Wargames Foundry miniatures glued to 1/2" x 3/4" metal bases instead of the 3/4" x 3/4" (2cm x 2cm) ones I normally use.

I do like the tighter look. And - of course - I dream of arranging them like this later on:

Blasthof Bridge: Electoral Infantry painted

Looking at my SYW collection, there is too much work-in-progress lying around and too few finished units. I decided on using the Blasthof Bridge scenario from the Charge! rules to provide me with a short term goal and a guideline to tie together the loose ends.

The electoral Infantry - 40 men and three officers - were the first in line. With an additional thirteen figures done it is now completely painted (click picture to enlarge):

Uniforms are those of IR 41 Wied. The pale yellow flag is one of the regiments nine Kompaniefahnen.
